Texas Flush

One of the cool things we do here is cleaning.  Why is it cool? It is one of the things we do that we see almost instantaneous results.  We begin by taking the instrument apart then putting all the metal peices in a big chemical bath.  It soaks in there for 15 minutes while the chemicals eat the gross stuff that grows inside horns. We take apart the valves so they can soak in the chemicals The valve caps before the chemical soak After the chemical soak, and a little bit of elbow grease to finish it off Then we do the fun stuff.  We take soap and brushes and clean out all the gross stuff that could possibly be left in the horn. It is not a very pretty job.  Some instruments are VERY dirty and we flush out all sorts of brown gunk.  Just think - your MOUTH was on that thing! EWWWW!! The chemicals we use are green.. The black stuff is NOT normal. The darker the chemical when  we flush it out, the dirtier it was!  This was one dirty b...
